Student & Parent Guide

These procedures support the GCPS's Blueprint of the Future by fostering a seamless connection within student-centered education driven by empathy, equity, and excellence.

Chromebook Device Care Checklist

Handle with Care

Use two hands when carrying; do not grab the device by the screen.

No Food Zone

Keep food, drinks, or other liquids away from the device.

Hard Surface Only

Keep devices on a hard, solid surface (table/desk) and place them gently.

Charging & Charger Safety

Trip Hazard Prevention

Plug the device into a nearby outlet so no one will trip over the cord.

Secure Charger Storage

When not charging the laptop, keep the charger stored securely.

School Readiness

The Chromebook must be brought to school fully charged each day.

What If? Troubleshooting Scenarios

1. Lost Device Protocol

  • Student notifies Homeroom teacher.
  • Fine of $250.00 for lost/stolen device.
  • If not found in 24 hours, student picks up new device from Tech Support.

2. Lost Charger

  • Student notifies teacher of the lost charger.
  • Student reports to Tech Support.
  • GCPS fine of $25.00 for lost chargers.
  • The fine will be placed on the student's MyPayments Plus account.

3. Forgot Device at Home

  • Student notifies Homeroom teacher.
  • Teacher arranges student to call parent.
  • Parent drops off device with Front Desk.
  • Best Practice: Recover forgotten Chromebooks early.

4. Pattern of Device Absence

  • Temporary checkouts are NOT available.
  • Grade Level Administrator is notified if a student consistently lacks their device.

5. Left Device on School Bus

  • Student notifies Homeroom teacher.
  • Teacher submits a tech ticket.
  • If not found in 24 hours, student receives replacement device (fees apply if lost).

MANDATORY Device Return Protocol

RETURN CHECKLIST (All Items MUST Be Returned)

Chromebook Device, Chromebook Sleeve, and Charger.

In-Year Withdrawal: Turn in the Chromebook to a Team Teacher or the Front Desk.

Summer Transfer: Return the device to the BCMS Front Desk Receptionist.

Crucial Step: Ensure the student’s name is clearly marked on the device or bag when returning.
